We have worked with thousands of people with brain injuries. Let our experience, combined with the curriculum of the Brain Injury Association, teach your team how to understand brain injury in the most informative CBIS training around!
History
A survey was completed in 1990 regarding the needs of licensed and non-licensed staff in brain injury services. Seventy-five percent of respondents noted that specialized training was needed for licensed staff and eighty-four percent indicated that training was needed for non-licensed staff. Ninety percent of survey respondents agreed that the training curriculum include the following: cognitive, psychological and social consequences of brain injury, behavioral approach for managing challenging behaviors and promoting positive skills, and techniques for effectively working with families.
Requirements
Applicants must have 500 hours of currently verifiable direct contact experience (employment and/or academic internship) working with survivors of brain injury (BI). Certification is renewed annually, requiring ten hours of continuing education each year.
Certification
The Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) allows professionals and staff to demonstrate their knowledge during a written examination and by earning a nationally recognized credential.
Organizations that serve individuals with brain injuries value hiring and training CBIS certified staff, because it allows them to work with and promote clinicians who understand the unique needs of persons recovering from brain injury and staying abreast of current resources in the field.
